Hi everyone I recently replaced the worm gear and housing on my KitchenAid mixer and now it makes a heavy clunking sound. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue or if you know what could be causing it and any potential fixes. It appears that the shaft which goes into the housing is splined and the aluminum housing spline has been stripped out. I’d take the upper housing apart. Remove the clip to drop the spine shaft out. Next use a metallic epoxy to epoxy the spline shaft back into the housing . Make sure the housing where the spine shaft is really clean.removed metal strap around motor housing then remove the 4 screws holding top motor cover on, then removed the 4 screws that hold gear cover in place, remove long gear that is driven by the motor gear, then with ring pliers remove ring off long drive shaft and lift off worm gears. once all gears are removed --removed all the old grease ( .
Noticed another issue. The planetary has excessive movement up and down. It’s basically the entire centre shaft and the crown/bevel gear moving loosely. It’s stopping against the worm gear bracket/housing which it hits against when moving upwards.
